The GNC Technical Alliance supports countries, agencies, and nutrition practitioners in humanitarian situations with technical assistance to meet the nutrition rights and needs of people affected by emergencies.

One way it does this is through its Technical Support Team (TST) which provides timely, cost-effective, coordinated, and sustainable technical support to nutrition emergencies. This is achieved by offering specialised technical expertise, in the form of quick remote support, recommending expert nutrition consultants through our vetted roster, or more in-depth support through the deployment of one of our Advisors or capacity building.

The TST Coordination Unit, co-hosted by Action Against Hunger Canada, UNICEF and the GNC Coordination Team, ensures the coordination of technical support requests, including matching to appropriate advisors, funding and high-quality delivery. The Unit works closely with TST technical leads and TST Partners. The TST provides expertise on a wide range of nutrition programming areas including Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E), Nutrition Assessments, Social Behaviour Change (SBC) for nutrition outcomes, Cluster Information Management, Cluster Coordination, Intersectoral Collaboration, Capacity Development and has access to other nutrition in emergencies expertise.

Support can be accessed, by anyone interested in nutrition, via the Request Form. All requests for support, however small, from all types of organisations, including governments, should be submitted here, and a response will be received within 24 hours.

The GNC Technical Alliance strives to improve the quality, efficiency, and coordination of technical support to nutrition emergency responders. This includes developing innovative new approaches to provide remote support, ensuring that all nutrition responses are gender-sensitive, expanding the number, language profile and technical areas of the GNC Technical Alliance Consultant Roster, and working with local organizations and experts to provide an efficient and adapted response to nutrition emergencies.

International Medical Corps is the technical lead for CMAM, Action Against Hunger Canada for Assessments, Action Against Hunger USA for SBC and Save the Children for IYCF-E. The additional expertise of 20 TST Partners, and over 150 vetted consultants, allows us to find the most appropriate Advisor for each request we receive. The TST is made possible with the generous support of USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, Irish Aid and UNICEF.
